Repainting your Boat

It’s something regular boaters will have to do every three years, and repainting your boat can be a rather difficult job, but it can be made easier if you follow are pieces of advice. Obviously the first step is to have your boat lifted out of the water, and special equipment is a must to do this correctly.

Once the boat is given time to dry off, you should identify any problems, such as holes, severe crack and scratches, and loose parts. It can also be beneficial to clean up the propeller, and getting these odd little jobs done before you paint is an extremely important aspect.

Now on to the painting. The first layer should be a primer, and it will give you paint job a nice resilient base. You can then apply the paint of your choice with a roller, rather than a small brush which could take a significant amount of time.

You may require a few layers depending on the previous paint coating, but try not to overdo it too much. Then sit back, watch it dry, drop it back into the river and enjoy for another couple of years.
