3 Rookie Mistakes Every Boater Should Avoid
If you’re new to the fabulous world of boating then you may want to make sure you’re prepared for what lies ahead. Just like when you pass your driving test, you have to learn the unwritten rules and that’s the same with boating.
You should always be positioned on the right of the river so it’s the opposite of driving a car but that’s just the way of the river, but don’t go too far over otherwise you may hit a bank.
Everybody cruising down the river will have to go through a lock at some point, and if you have plenty near you then you should know that politeness sis always important. You should not attempt to overtake a boat, no matter how slow it is to get into the lock. It’s just not polite, and you’ll certainly get some evil glares.
Finally, it’s courteous to wave at each boat you see. It’s just a symbol of respect, and the boating community is close-knit, so try to make as many friends as you can, even if it is just with a smile and a wave.
